Objection · Case 04 · The Trinity

Revelation is apocalyptic imagery, not a doctrinal statement, written late by an author whose Greek is idiosyncratic and whose theology is disputed.

Response

The imagery is symbolic, but what the symbols do is precise. The Lamb receives blessing and honor and glory and might forever in a scene deliberately modeled on Isaiah’s throne room, and the same book twice shows an angel refusing worship from John (19:10, 22:9). The author knew exactly what worship was and where the line sat, and placed the Lamb on the far side of it. The late date matters less here than for historical claims, because the point is about what an early Christian community believed and practiced, not about what Jesus did.

About this exhibit

This objection is to Heaven worships the Lamb alongside God, Revelation 5:11-14.

In the throne-room vision, every creature ascribes “to the Lamb be blessing and honor,” the very same worship given to the One on the throne. The Lamb receives worship next to God, not below him.

Under Claim 03: Jesus receives the worship and prayer that Scripture reserves for God, and he accepts it.
