Community guidelines

These threads exist for one thing: careful, good-faith conversation about hard questions. Skeptics are genuinely welcome — the questions are the point. To keep the space worth reading, a few rules apply to everyone.

What this space is for

Ask the honest question. Push on the argument. Bring a counter-example. The best threads treat the person on the other side as someone worth understanding, even in sharp disagreement.

What gets removed

Personal attacks, slurs, and harassment. Spam, advertising, and off-topic links. Deliberate bad faith — trolling, or arguing to score points rather than to get somewhere. Doxxing or sharing anyone’s private information. Content that’s unsafe or illegal.

How moderation works

Volunteer moderators review reports and can hide comments, lock a thread, or remove an account that keeps breaking these rules. New accounts may have their first comments held briefly for review. If you think a decision was wrong, say so — moderators are people and get things wrong too.

Report anything off

Every comment has a report button. Use it whenever something crosses a line; a moderator will look. The faster we hear about it, the faster it’s handled.

Reading is always open to everyone. You only need an account to post, and posting means agreeing to these guidelines.
