Claim 5 of 13 · Case 04 · The Trinity
The New Testament credits Jesus with creating and holding together everything, which places him on the Creator side of the Creator and creature line.

In Jewish thinking the deepest division in reality is between the Creator and everything he made. There is nothing in between. So which side of that line a being stands on is the whole question. The New Testament repeatedly puts Jesus on the Creator side. It says the world was made through him, and, just as striking, that he keeps it in existence right now.

The Word made all things, John 1:3
Agency in creation is the clearest possible marker of the Creator side. If everything that exists was made through Jesus, then Jesus is not among the things that were made.Created through him and held together in him, Colossians 1:16-17
The added claim of holding all things together goes beyond a one-time act. It describes an ongoing divine function, which a creature cannot fill.Paul and Hebrews attribute creation to Jesus, 1 Corinthians 8:6 and Hebrews 1:2-3
Because this creation language shows up in several independent writers, it is a consistent New Testament pattern rather than the flourish of a single author. Bauckham treats exactly this kind of creation language as marking inclusion in God’s own identity.
