Church of Scientology, FAQ on religious figures

One exhibit from the free evidence repository at apologetics.pro.

Scientology’s own FAQ addresses Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, and the Buddha together as religious figures of the past, and its teaching on God imposes no requirement to regard Jesus as divine or as savior. The place given to Jesus is minor and optional.

Objections & responses

Why would a non-Christian religion treat Jesus as central? This is true of Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, and Islam too. It’s a definition of “not Christianity,” not a criticism.

Correct, and it is presented as the sharpest difference rather than a fault. Its value is practical: Scientology presents itself as compatible with other religions, and some members identify as both Christian and Scientologist, so it is worth showing that the system has no place for the Christian claims about Jesus. Hubbard’s own statements about Jesus in the upper-level materials are dismissive, which is documented and stronger than an argument from the FAQ’s silence.
