Claim 2 of 15 · Case 12 · Jehovah’s Witnesses
The New World Translation is the Watchtower’s own Bible, produced by a committee that has never been named, and it changes several key verses in the direction its doctrine needs.

Jehovah’s Witnesses use their own translation, the New World Translation. The New Testament portion appeared in 1950 and the complete one-volume Bible in 1961. The translators have always been anonymous, so their competence in Hebrew and Greek cannot be checked by anyone outside the organization. In a small number of doctrinally loaded places the wording differs from virtually every standard translation; the few that render John 1:1 as “the Word was divine” still do not say “a god.” Two examples below are the clearest and are easy for anyone to verify by comparing texts.

New World Bible Translation Committee, official Watchtower glossary
This is the organization’s own statement that the translation is theirs and that the people who made it are unnamed. That’s not an accusation. It’s simply the fact that makes independent quality control impossible.
John 1:1 and Colossians 1:16 in the New World Translation
Two specific, checkable places where the translation departs from the Greek in a way that fits Watchtower theology. Anyone with an interlinear can confirm that “other” has no basis in the text, which is why this is strong evidence rather than a matter of opinion.
