Objection · Case 05 · Relativism

Two Barna sources are one source twice. The Cultural Research Center is George Barna’s own project. And deciding morality by feelings isn’t the same as thinking feelings make things right.

Response

Both points are fair. This is the same researcher and the same method as the previous exhibit, and it should be read as an update rather than independent confirmation. The 74 percent who decide morality by feelings also deserve a careful reading: a moral realist can consult feelings as evidence of moral facts, the way one consults perception as evidence of physical facts. Deciding by feeling is not the same as holding that feelings make things right. The line between the two is exactly what the interview study in the next exhibit tried to probe.

Under Claim 01: Many people today say moral truth is relative, but they cannot live consistently as if it were.
