The church’s Gospel Topics essay, “Translation and Historicity of the Book of Abraham”
One exhibit from the free evidence repository at apologetics.pro.
The church addresses the question directly in one of its Gospel Topics essays. It acknowledges that the surviving fragments do not match the text of the Book of Abraham, that scholars identify them as common funerary writings, and it offers two possibilities: that the translation came from papyri now lost, or that the papyri were a catalyst for revelation rather than a literal source. It does not dispute how the Egyptologists read the fragments.
